400,000 years ago in modern day Southern Oregon, stood a huge volcano. The monstrous Mount Mazama and its enormous eruptions had been plaguing the land for many years. Experts believe that about 7,700 years ago Mazama had an eruption that was so large and powerful, that ash could be found all over the Pacific Northwest and even into Southern Canada. Since this blast was so strong, the volcano actually collapsed in on itself. The collapse ended up leaving a giant crater that is five miles in diameter and one mile deep.
